there comes a time
it's been a wild ride.
after 18 crazy, tumultuous, eye-opening, thought-provoking, wonderful, at times deafening, at times silent, educational, joyous, frustrating and utterly amazing months, everyone's favorite local record store has officially* closed its doors.
we would like to extend a hearty thank you to all the regulars, the silent partners, the suppliers, the general supporters and the loiterers. it has truly been a blessing.
but, as with all things, it is time for this vagabond to move on.
we will continue to kick around this place** if you ever need anything.
keep on rockin', kids. keep on rockin'.
* - it's not OFFICIALLY official, but it pretty much is
** - i will be uploading about 1,000 more cds in the next weeks/months as i make the transition. so check in often.

business as usual
in the wake of lame stories like the terrible tragedy at virginia tech on monday and violence in baghdad that claimed 186 lives, i'm glad that Yahoo!® has FINALLY gotten back to the things that SHOULD be in the "featured news" section on their home page.
yep, who cares about all the death and injustice in the world...when chris had a bad performance, guys? he had A BAD PERFORMANCE, people! how can this happen in THIS country? why has god forsaken us in this time when we NEED american idol?

say it ain't so, stan. say it ain't so
i am horrified.
i cannot imagine a universe where stan lee and the people at marvel comics would allow their (arguably) most famous creation to be whored out to the extent that it has been lately.
personally, i thought that this was actually kind of funny.
but this is basically as unacceptable as it comes.
observe it in action here.
mr. lee, please get control of your beloved character.
awful.

ballpark review: great american ballpark
GREAT AMERICAN BALLPARK- Cincinnati, OH
reds vs pirates- april 06, 2007 - game time temperature: 32° F. by far the coldest game i have ever attended. this white and red gem on the ohio river is far more quaint than its 42,000 capacity would suggest. it's unabashedly "river" themed and unique enough to stand up to any of the other chic parks built as of late. despite the cold, the small crowd was rowdy and energetic. there were mascots running amok and some dude won a year's worth of pizza thanks to brandon phillips. now if someone would just tell the sound guy to stop playing lame, canned sound effects after EVERY foul ball...this place would be a great park to call home.
atmosphere: 8
viewability: 8
architecture: 7
peanuts: 5
you can see the other parks i have visited here.

today is the end of the college basketball season
...and the beginning of baseball season.
i could never have HOPED to choose two sports that complement each other more perfectly over the course of a 12-month, roman calendar.
today, the kansas city royals opened their defense of last year's stellar season by eeking out a 7-1 win against the boston red sox.
so, they have ONE of of their 61 wins out of the way for this season.
that's good.
