maybe next year

i had such grand plans for new years-style, year-in-review type posts. such lofty ideas. but given that a) i don't want to post 4 separate posts today, and b) i never really fleshed out the details of any of them...i give you the abreviated "postapalooza" version of "2005: past, present and past"

post #1- "ten things i hate: year end edition"

basically, it comes down to ONE thing right now. DEBT. ok, that and celebrity gossip, but that is not enough for a full post.

this could have been great, but with items such as:

-good news, richard pryor made the news again. bad news, it's cause he died.

or

-bad news, the movie
"stealth" was made. good news, nobody watched it.

...already suspect to bad humor, the joke would have worn thin long before i ended it.

i only ended up with two. (jamie pressly WILL be nominated for an emmy for her role as "joy" in my name is earl. and the kansas city royals WILL win 63 games.) again, not enough for a full post, but i will stand by those two with pride.

post #4- "obligatory new years rant vol. IV"

uh...in short, 2005 was a pretty dang good year. yep, pret-ty dang good.

that's it. happy new year and see "kiss kiss bang bang."

one-eight-five-charlie-november

now that it has been a full day and a half since we crossed back across the rio grande at 3,500ft, i guess i had better write something.

so, uh...the trip was...amazing.

but, the exact words to describe what it is like to chug through the air between mountains in a foreign country, land your small aircraft on a strip of dirt littered with dogs and mules, jump out with your mini dv camera and two digital still cameras in tow to somehow capture,in a few short minutes, the essence of what it is like to live in a remote, tiny indian village before hopping back in the plane after handing out dozens of christmas gifts to seemingly-grateful, dirty children just to zip off to the next village and eventually, if the weather and fuel hold, home...somehow elude me.

while pictures may still be a while off (dial-up is my eternal nemesis) i can offer you these scenarios. imagine if you will:

-the "durango rectangle." 3 square blocks in durango, mexico where vehicles (driven by or at least occupied by members of our party) mysteriously break-down, appear and/or disappear at alarming rates.

-a breathtaking southwest vista unceremoniously converted into a makeshift landfill.

-a hand-made corn tortilla, a fresh egg, a bottle of picante sauce, a mountaintop village and instant coffee all coming together to form the most perfect breakfast ever enjoyed by any person, in any place, ever.

-an 80-year-old man in a spiderman ballcap shaking like he is waiting for a meeting with tony soprano, trying to set the guiness record for the loudest, sharpest "Si!" ever uttered.

-3 kids who live in a village with no road access taking their first (and likely only ever) airplane ride.

-trying to refuel/enter a flightplan/clear customs at a small mexican airport DURING lunch (aka "siesta") and the frustration that comes with it.

-the experience of 3 guys doing things they are passionate about, all the while trying to learn just a little bit more about how God works through His people in all circumstances.

as i said...amazing.

pardon me, while i go straight to hell

part of me felt really bad. mostly though, i just laughed. a LOT more than i should have.

i give you, my viewing pattern for thursday night, the 15th of december, 2005:

9 pm (cst) - "the boy whose skin fell off"

10 pm (cst) - "born with two heads"

11 pm (cst) - "archie: the 84-lb baby"

call me twisted, but i freaking love TLC.

error: post not available

i'm not sure why we feel the need to explain ourselves when we slack off on the whole posting thing, but it is something we all continue to do. so, at the risk of sounding completely unoriginal...

"sorry i haven't posted anything in a while. life's been pretty crazy."

now that that is out of the way let me fill you in on what has been forsaken and what you will NOT find here.

1) cade's annual "holiday movie preview." first, it should have happened almost a month ago, so it's just too late. plus, there are too many actual good movies (coming) out to waste my precious sarcasm on. you'll get your fill come oscar time, i promise.

2) "10 things i hate: year end edition" okay, so this one may show up, just not for a bit.

3) a witty commentary about the absurdities of diving into a small business with little to no financial back up plan. oh man, it's hilarious. but, i'll save it for the movie.

4) speaking of movies: i think i have a great idea for a screenplay. in all seriousness, it's ripped from conversations i have either had or overheard since i moved to the north shore of massachusetts. it has all the potential to be important and pretty dang funny. somebody, please MAKE me write it.

5) stories of great customer interactions at (insert record store name here) records. drunk eddie aside, it's been pretty standard. where are all the crazies?!?

6) and...uh...dancing girls.

actual content to come soon. i kind of promise.
