bridal registry redux

so, beck and i started the process of making lists of things that we want people to lavish us with this coming may. despite the physical toll of walking around for hours and hours in the local bed, bath and beyond and target stores...it's a relatively painless process. it can even be fun at some points depending on one's personal definition of the line between "need" and "want."

but the thing that i noticed most as we dug through the seemingly endless aisles of kitchenaid goodies and domestic bric-a-brac wasn't necessarily the things that we wanted...but more, the things that we absolutely, under no natural circumstance and unconditionally do NOT want.

i hold strong opinions on a very limited number of gift ideas and, for the most part, i trust the taste of our friends and family. but i believe that, in lieu of a bridal registry, we should have the option of signing up for something more helpful...an ANTI-registry. simply, a list of the things that will only lead to the drawing of ire and a full trash can.

things like this. and this, for example.

it would encourage a personal touch and creativity in our guests, but would offer a helpful framework in which to operate.

i think it's a winning idea.

Having done the whole registry thing before, I have this helpful advice-you may think you have everything you need. This is the time to get the things you want. For us, it was a down comforter.

Oh and no matter what happens, you'll end up with more than one microwave and toaster oven-our score was two microwaves and three toaster ovens. No one needs that many food warmer-uppers.

Brave of you to start listing things that we shouldn't get you. (Sinister laugh)

My favorite was registering for things at Target not normally given as wedding gifts, like duct tape, Marshmallow Maties, and ice.

We got criticized for registering for *one* set of towels, *one* set of sheets, etc. My only registry advice is: to register for at least 2 of each, and even if you have something already, don't be afraid to register for the same thing, but better.

After 7 years of marriage, I'd like to do the gift registry thing all over again, as much of it is/has been wearing out, including our Calphalon cooking wear. In theory we're better able to afford replacements now, but it'll have to wait for the new house & adopted baby.

Dones-so did we! So those people bought us more than one set of sheets, towels, etc. We asked for ordinary things as well like steak knives and just regular gift cards from Target to buy stuff later. I agree-go for the ordinary things, Go for the 1,000 thread count sheets, those extra fluffy towels, even just things like throw blankets/pillows.
