the jayhawks of the university of kansas are in the big XII championship game for the second year in a row. a conference room in indianapolis bustles with the members of a shadowy committee trying to set the final pieces in place for the 6 pm deadline. teams who have had better seasons than they have in years gather together to watch the fate of their post-season on tv. and teams who have fallen off from past seasons gather for the same reasons. wondering. waiting. wishing.
what was once 65 open spots has dwindled to just a few. a precious few that will be unveiled this evening. and somewhere, deep under the ground, dick vitale is plugged into his charging chamber computing countless threads of babbling nonsense that will be utilized tonight for all of our benefit.
it's selection sunday. and NO one can convince me that it is not the beginning of the best week in all of sports.
for those of you who celebrate it, enjoy.
for those who do not. i would urge you to find SOME reason to get involved.

nascar lover.
well, you know, if nascar's your game....kansas is your name.
whatever the hell THAT means.
ugh, nascar. Sorry Ahbahsean. I was ranting at the TV last night because I thought nascar was going to pre-empt the Simpsons.
As for other sports-meh.
let the games begin!!!
btw - post is up on the Curse of Gerry McNamara
I'm going with Wash State over Oral Roberts. I know its a risky decision on my part...I mean (in case you weren't told) they did beak KU this year.
Since I've abandoned my blog...here's my contribution...a look back at 'Where are they now? The Biggest Loser, 2007 edition"
These players gave up on Kansas and decided that their lives would be better off somewhere else. I ask you, is anyone of these players on a better team than Kansas (Big 12 regular season and tournament champs,#1 seed West region)???
Omar Wilkes
averaged 30 minutes a game and was the fourth leading scorer for a sub-500 California team that was 6-12 in the Pac 10.
David Padgett
His Louisville Cardinals are the #6 seed in the South regional and are playing their first two games in nearby Lexington so as to keep Rick Pitino's "friends" happy. Even with the home crowd, expect them to bow out early. Padgett meanwhile averaged just under 10 points per game while leading the team in blocked shots.
Alex Galindo
Alex was the leading scorer this year for Florida International University at 13.9 points a game. If that seems low, it might be because Alex's team sucks going 12-17 overall and 7-11 in the weak Sun Belt Conference
Micah Downs
Gonzaga's conference tournament win earned them a #10 seed in this year's big dance. A reflection of the committee's ability to recognize that the clock struck midnight on this Cinderella long ago. Our dear Micah meanwhile played in just 16 games for the Bulldogs who lost their best player to a drug possession arrest.
J.R. Giddens
One of the two instigators of the famous Moon Bar stabbing, J.R. left Lawrence in a cloud of unfulfilled expectations. In Alberquerque however, he has found his shooting touch as the leading scorer on the Lobos who finished 4-12 in the mediocre Mountain West Conference and 15-17 overall.
C.J. Giles
The other Moon Bar exile who apparently thought he was a cat with 9 lives. Even after Bill Self suspended him from the team and then took him back on the condition he stay out of trouble, C.J. waited a little over a week to slap his ex and drag her by her hair out of his on campus apartment (allegedly)
He has decided to enroll at Oregon State. He can join his new teammates at the sports bar where they'll be watching the postseason after going 11-21 and 3-15 in the Pac 10.
Nick Bahe
Dude probably wouldn't have seen much PT in Lawrence, so he went to the sweetheart of the mid-majors, Creighton. As a #10 seed in the south regional, they face a tough and angry Nevada squad in the first round. Nick averaged 15 minutes a game off the bench and just over 3 points a game.
Jeremy Case, Matt Kleinmann, Brady Morningstar, Brennan Bechard, Brad Witherspoon, Rodrick Stewart....you each should write these 7 players a thank you note and let them know you apprecaite them vacating a spot on the Jayhawks roster so you can watch the postseason from the bench of a #1 seed.
nicely done Dale, nicely done.
cade...sorry to infiltrate your blog and post a mini-blog in yours...didn't mean to tread on your turf...
it's on, punk.
